Join Our Association

Active Member K-12 Teacher, Substitute Teacher, College/University Faculty

Membership is unified; members belong to their GEA, CEA, and NEA and pay dues to three organizations through monthly dues deductions or payments. The CEA Membership Form may be downloaded and printed (Spanish version).

  1. Active Member K-12 Teacher – Most teachers are eligible to join through one of CEA’s 200 Local Associations or a BOCES Unit. If you are actively employed, this is how you will join. Find out who your Association Representative is or follow these steps to get started.
    • Find your Local Association here.
    • Print the CEA-NEA Membership Form (top of this page), complete it, and give it to the CEA-NEA Association Representative (AR) in your school. Your AR will help you obtain payroll deduction for dues (available in most locals) and assist you in completing the appropriate forms. Your Local Association may use a different form – but this one will get you started.
    • You can join at any time during the year. If an Active member joins after September 1, the Local Association in determining the new member’s dues must prorate the dues by the number of months and payroll deduction periods remaining in the membership year.
    • If you work in a school district or BOCES without an active CEA Local Association, contact our UniServ Office about belonging.
  2. Active Member Substitute Teacher – Substitute teachers are eligible to join CEA-NEA — with all the regular benefits and services of teacher members — and are occasionally eligible to join a Local Association if the Local Association has a Substitute Teacher category. The Association Representative in the school in which you work will know if you are in the teacher bargaining unit and eligible to belong to the Local Association.Substitute teachers generally pay half dues because they work part-time. You can join at any time during the year. If an Active member joins after September 15, the Local Association or CEA, in determining the new member’s dues, prorates the dues by the number of months and payroll deduction periods remaining in the membership year. If you do not belong to a Local Association, but to CEA and NEA, you will also pay a UniServ Service Fee.

Print the CEA-NEA Membership Form (top of this page), complete it, and mail it with your check for dues to: Colorado Education Association, Attn: Kallie Benjamin, 1500 Grant Street, Denver, CO 80203. You may pay dues through automatic checking account deduction/electronic funds transfer. If you choose to do this, complete both the CEA-NEA Membership Form and this EFT Authorization.

Substitute Teachers who accept “permanent sub” or “long term” assignments are required to become full-time regular members. Follow the instructions in (1) above.

  3. Active Member College or University Faculty – Most college/university faculty will join through a CEA Local Association, as K-12 employees do. If you are actively employed, this is how you will join. Find out who your Local President is or follow these steps to get started.
    • Find your Local Association here.
    • Print the CEA-NEA Membership Form (top of this page), complete it, and give it to the CEA-NEA Local President on your campus. Your president will help you finish the process.
    • You may pay dues through automatic checking account deduction/electronic funds transfer. If you choose to do this, complete both the membership form and this EFT Form.
    • If you work on a campus without an active CEA Local Association, contact our UniServ Units about belonging.
